Zdecydowałem się na DTM z powodu samochodów Class One - powiedział
Robert Kubica podczas konferencji prasowej przed finałem DTM 2020. - To
ze względu na odczucia i to, co te auta mogą zaoferować kierowcy. Więc
jeśli zapytasz mnie o DTM i przyszły rok, nie wiem, czy wezmę udział w
tych mistrzostwach i szczerze mówiąc nie wiem, co będę robił. Zwykle
jest to okres, w którym zaczynamy orientować się, jakie są możliwości.
Oczywiście ze względu na Covid-19 i sytuację, którą mamy, wszystko
trochę się przesunęło. Najbliższe tygodnie będą miały kluczowe
znaczenie. Na pewno coś mi chodzi po głowie, co bym chciał robić.
Pytanie brzmi, czy to się uda zrealizować.
Zamiast jeździć GT3 w DTM, wolałbym raczej zrobić to w VLN na Nordschleife. To byłoby zupełnie inne wyzwanie, w którym byłbym debiutantem. Coś takiego chciałbym właśnie zrobić. Czasami spoglądam na to, czego nowego chciałbym się podjąć. Właśnie DTM było jedną z tych rzeczy w przypadku samochodów Class One. Drugą jest ściganie się na Nordschleife.To jest coś, czego nie wykluczam (24H Le Mans, WEC). Zdecydowanie Le Mans to historyczne zawody. Prototypy to jedna z najlepszych kategorii, oferująca bardzo wymagające wyścigi. Brałem udział w testach LMP2, a także samochodu LMP1, który był całkiem fajny w prowadzeniu. Jeśli zobaczycie mnie w Le Mans, celem byłaby jazda prototypem, a nie samochodem GT. Widziałem młodych kierowców w Formule 1, którzy wywodzili się z DTM. To była dobra szansa. Kiedy DTM przejdzie na klasę GT3, stanie się mniej atrakcyjne dla młodych zawodników. To czego się uczysz w samochodzie GT niekoniecznie zadziała w bolidzie.
Szkoda. Rozumiem, że te samochody były bardzo drogie i mało atrakcyjne
dla nowych producentów. Odkąd pamiętam, DTM było dla mnie wyścigami na
wysokim poziomie z fabrycznymi zespołami. To najbardziej ekscytujące
samochody z dachem, którymi można się ścigać. Prawdopodobnie wszyscy
kierowcy będą tęsknić za wrażeniami z jazdy tymi autami. Wyglądają jak
samochody turystyczne, ale odczucia są jak w bolidzie. Jeśli jednak ta
zmiana stanowi świetlaną przyszłość dla DTM, to jest właściwy krok. Mam
nadzieję, że DTM odniesie sukces także z samochodami GT3.
